Welcome to Rockford's First Official Pride Parade! Here's everything you need to know to make the most of this historic event.
Pre-Parade Festivities
The Committee invites the public for a flag raising ceremony in honor of our LGBTQIA+ veterans. The event will being promptly at 8:30 am at Veterans Memorial Hall (211 N Main St, Rockford, IL 61101).
The excitement builds at 10:45 am. Head over to the mainstage, located in front of Maze Books (406 E. State Street, Rockford IL 61104), for a series of inspiring speeches:
Mayor Tom McNamara will read the Pride Month Proclamation and deliver brief remarks, marking the official recognition of Pride Month in Rockford.
Representative Eric Sorenson (IL-17) will follow with his own comments.
Andrew J. Mertzenich, Chair of the Committee, will offer a short reflection and thank those who made this monumental event possible.
Parade Route and Viewing Areas
The parade begins at the intersection of East State Street and Charles Street, proceeding westward along East State Street. It will then cross the picturesque Rock River, turn north onto Main Street, and conclude at Beattie Park. Event Logistics
Timing: The parade steps off at 11:00 am. Be sure to arrive early to secure a good viewing spot and to enjoy the pre-parade speeches.
Weather: The parade will take place rain or shine. In the event of dangerous conditions, the parade may be postponed briefly until it is safe to proceed. Stay updated on the event's official social media channels for any last-minute changes.
Accessibility: The parade route and viewing areas are designed to be accessible to all. If you have any specific questions, please reach out to the event organizers in advance.
How to Get There
Downtown Rockford is well-equipped with various transportation options:
Parking: There are several public parking lots and street parking options near the parade route. Arrive early to find a spot close to your preferred viewing area.
Public Transit: Rockford Mass Transit District (RMTD) buses provide convenient access to the parade route. Check the RMTD website for schedules and routes.
Biking/Walking: For those nearby, biking or walking can be a great way to avoid traffic and enjoy the community atmosphere.
What to Bring
Comfort: Wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for walking and standing. Don’t forget sunscreen, hats, and water to stay hydrated and protected from the sun.
Pride Gear: Show your support with Pride flags, signs, and colorful attire. Some local vendors may also be selling Pride-themed merchandise along the route.

Community and Safety
The Rockford Area Pride Parade is a family-friendly event. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all:
Respect: Be mindful and respectful of others, including participants, spectators, and volunteers.
Safety: Follow all instructions from event organizers and local authorities.
In case of emergency, locate the nearest volunteer or official for assistance. Also, if you see something suspicious, please notify a parade marshal or police officer.
The Rockford Police Department will be present throughout the parade route.
Parade Marshals and Volunteers can be identified by their neon green shirts with the Committee's Logo on the front. Many will have two-way radios.
